In the second grade I remember having a desire to work with children overseas . That desire, planted by God, is now my passion and I am pursuing it.
Since graduating from Evangel University in ‘04 with a degree in Social Work, I have been working part time at a shelter for young homeless mothers and their babies. I really feel that this has been part of God’s plan for me, so I’ve continued to work at the shelter while working full time at Boston Medical Center in the family medicine program. In 2005, I went to St Petersburg, Russia with a missions team from my church and worked with orphans. This past year, 2006, our church went to Kampala, Uganda partnering with Watoto Child Care Ministries. While on this trip it was as if God poured miracle grow on the desire He planted in my heart so long ago.

He consistently speaks to my heart impressing upon me, over and over, that now is the time to go and serve; make a difference in the lives of others, and just give of myself to serve and be a vessel that HE can work through. The words Jesus spoke in John 9:4 have come alive to me. So, I’m going to Chiang Mai, Thailand, “Chasing Daylight”. I will be serving under the direction of Missionaries Scott and Brenda St Pierre with Open Doors Missions at The Gentle Nest Baby Home. The vision for The Gentle Nest began with Brenda and her daughter Aymee in 2005 and has quickly become a reality of the love and compassion of God. It is a home for babies who are unwanted by their biological mothers or families. The babies usually arrive just after they are released from the hospital. Many women in this part of Asia do not have the resources to take care of an infant. They hide out on the street, hide their pregnancy and do not eat well or take vitamins. Often, babies are abandoned, left to
die, or given to the government orphanage.I am deciding to do a small thing in a GREAT way. To serve is to love the overlooked. When you love the misfit, befriend the hurting, you are loving HIM.
