We have partnered with Faith Christian Church in Chennai, India as they work to help the poor in their community. Many of the kids at FCC are homeless and living on the pavement. Poverty is a way of life for them. They are surrounded by drugs, alcohol, prostitution and disease. They live on the open ground making small tents close to the river Coovan. These kids are poor, orphaned or just thrown away. FCC has committed to helping these children and so have we. We have two programs to help meet the needs of many of these children. The first is "Bottles for India". Gia began bottles for India as a simple way to raise money for the children in Chennai. The program has grown considerably since it's inception, recycling thousands of bottles each month to raise funds for India. In April of 2007 we recycled 3,667 bottles, raising $183.35! This is money that is sent directly to Faith Christian Church to help meet the needs of their most vulnerable children.
The second program Gia started is "God's Precious Sparrows". This a program that helps to directly connect us with the children in Chennai. We un-officially "adopt" a street child from FCC. First and foremost we commit to praying for our "adopted" children every day. This is the most important way we can help these children. The other thing we do is put together monthly care packages to be sent to FCC for distribution. These packages are a tangible way to connect with the children and share Jesus' love with them.
